Frankenstein Meme, Day 24

Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

Oh, a few.

Harriet Jones didn’t die at the hands of Daleks in “The Stolen Earth”. She was too good, too smart, and too necessary to the Whoniverse, in my opinion, and I wrote my own little fixit about that.

(Interesting coincidence that I discovered while trying to remember the name of the episode in which she died — Google-fu can turn up the strangest things —
a poem in the 2017 book by James Goss, “Harriet Jones, PM”, illustrated by Russell T. Davies, has her surviving by falling through a trap door in her livingroom, landing on a mattress, and racing away on a motorbike. RTD says it’s canon. In my 2008 fic “Copper Armour for Miss JonesHarriet survives by falling through her collapsed livingroom floor. She blacks out and wakes up on a camp bed, where her rescuer (Mr. Copper) had placed her. There’s no motorcycle, but they get away in Mr. Copper’s automobile. Of course it’s not plagiarism of any type, but it does amuse me to think that RTD and others wanted to save her, and found a way remarkably similar to the way I chose to save her.)

Donna Noble regains her memories without dying. I always thought her fate was lazy writing on RTD’s part. Yep,
wrote a fixit about that as well, because I just know that the Thirteenth Doctor would have done her damndest to solve what Ten didn’t.

Rory and Amy either
escaped New York, or weren’t sent back by the angel.

Huh. I appear to be pimping my own fixits, but I guess that’s because when I really, really, really, disagree with something in the Whoniverse as presented on the small screen, I’m incapable of not writing something to change what happens. Y’all don’t have to read any of it, and I’ll stop.

But that's what makes me have head!canons.

Other head!canons: Rose, the Ninth Doctor and Jack Harkness were able to avoid Game Station and stay together; Rawhide wasn’t killed by a Red Lectroid; Taura was able to live to a ripe old age with a partner of her choosing, thanks to Miles. Sapphire and Steel escaped the motorway cafe.

God, I have to stop now.

Frankenstein Meme, Day 20

What fandom broke your heart?

No fandom has broken my heart. There are some stories within my chosen fandoms that have made me cry, but I assume this question has to do with members of the fandom, and not the creators, or the stories that comprise what I love in each fandom.

No? I’m wrong? OK ….

Frankenstein Meme, Day 10

Do you have a fandom that you follow - either regularly or casually - with little to no knowledge of canon?:

Nope, although at one time I guess that I knew Sapphire and Steel only through fics. Now that I’ve watched all the episodes (and that reminds me, I should watch them again), that doesn’t count. I suppose I don’t know everything about Doctor Who’s canon, but is there anyone who does? At least I know that Frobisher was a companion ….

1. What's changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?
2. Your newest fandom.

5. What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?
6. What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way:

Liz questions that.

Dr. Who/Sapphire and Steel fanfic

Title: Layer Quake
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel, Doctor Who
Summary: As she dodged the ridiculously-titled Transient Beings, Liz Shaw had to agree with Silver: she'd dashed into the TARDIS after him, so she had to face the consequences. A brief tale in which one reality opens an escape route from another.
Characters: Steel, Sapphire, Silver, Liz Shaw
Words: 953 per Google Docs
Notes: A few days ago, in an effort to get my creative juices flowing, and to pair that with an improvement in my writing discipline, I asked for prompts. The ever-lovely [personal profile] thisbluespirit was among those who obliged. This stems from her prompt "Steel/Sapphire/Silver - trapped between realities". As I considered it, this potential (and potentially silly) S&S fixit occurred to me. There's a certain lack of explanation that I will fob off to my desire not to get bogged down the way I usually do.
Edited by: Absolutely no one, and it will probably show, but I'm putting it up at what (for me) is top speed. All mistakes are my own; let me know of them, and I'll endeavor to correct them.
Disclaimer: I own nothing of the Whoniverse or the universe of Sapphire and Steel. All characters are the sole property of Peter J. Hammond, ATV, the BBC, and their various creators. I intend no copywrite infringement and take no coin. I just love them all.
Addendum: Apologies for the lack of a cut, since I am apparently unable to create a proper one today.

Sapphire & Steel Fic: Narwhals

Title: Narwhals
Author:
[personal profile] kaffyr
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel
Characters: Sapphire, Silver, Steel, Lead, Copper, Iridium, Jet, Gold, Ruby, Radium
Summary: In the icy, inky black depths of a polar ocean, a dance; Jet tells a story.
Words: 1,188
Author's Note: Written for
[personal profile] lost_spook during 2017's [community profile] fandom_stocking.
We know so little about Elements that I have taken a liberty in describing Jet as having no set gender (hence “them” and “they”). I also took the liberty of allowing Jet, Iridium, and Radium the ability to work in the ocean and under several atmospheres’ worth of pressure. I have always been fascinated and frightened, in equal amounts, by the thought of the darkest depths of the ocean, especially the polar oceans; I’ve been equally fascinated by narwhals, and some of the stories about them. If you want further reading and viewing about these amazing creatures, here are a few interesting links:

Edited by: No one, unfortunately, but obsessively read and re-read by me. All mistakes are, therefore, unmistakably mine.
Disclaimer: None of the characters in this story are mine. They are the sole property of Peter J. Hammond, ATV, and their various creators. I intend no infringement and take no coin.

DW/S&S Fic: Shadows on the Piazza

Title: Shadows on the Piazza
Author:
[personal profile] kaffyr
Fandom: Doctor Who, Sapphire and Steel
Characters: Liz Shaw, Silver
Summary: Sunshine breeds shadows, and friendship breeds concern; Elizabeth Shaw considers, and worries about, a most unusual friend.
Words: 1,034
Author's note: This is for the lovely
[personal profile] lost_spook , written for the 2016 [community profile] fandom_stocking fun. I almost consider it cheating, when I get to write for her, because I don't think I'll ever thank her enough for introducing me to Sapphire & Steel or to one of the more unusual friendships of which I've become incredibly fond. I hope she likes this. (Also, I hope she doesn't mind the inadvertent reference early on in the story. Ahem.)
Edited by: None but myself. I obsessively read and reread; if there are mistakes, they are mine alone, and I will correct them once alerted to them.
Disclaimer: None of the characters in this story are mine. They are the sole property of the BBC, Peter J. Hammond, ATV, and their various creators. I intend no infringement and take no coin.

Sapphire & Steel fic: Hachi

Title: Hachi
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel
Characters: Sapphire, Silver, Steel
Words: 2,235
Summary: Bridges can be utilitarian or they can be beautiful. In either case, they allow people to cross obstacles and travel from one place to another - or, in the case of Elements, to break through hostile attacks of Time and rescue one of their own. Trust Silver to have an elegant touch ....
Author's note: Now, just as the 2016
[community profile] fandom_stocking fun is in full swing, I have finally made good on my 2015 [community profile] fandom_stocking IOU to [personal profile] liadtbunny . I cannot begin to describe the chagrin with which I view my laggardly efforts.

Doctor Who/Sapphire and Steel Fic: A Vein of Silver

Title: A Vein of Silver
Author: [personal profile] kaffyr
Fandom: Doctor Who, Sapphire and Steel
Characters: Liz Shaw, Silver, the Third Doctor, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart
Words: 4,083
Summary: Let the wall be built, the stranger said; Dr. Liz Shaw considers her options in a laboratory where something's gone wrong with Time.
Author's note: This was written with a great deal of affection for [personal profile] lost_spook (and a great deal of nervous second-guessing on the author's part) for the 2015 Fandom Stocking fun. She it was who introduced me to Sapphire and Steel, she it was who instilled in me the understanding that Elements are not human, but that Silver and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw might be an excellent pairing. (Perhaps something like fine, albeit very odd, wine, one supposes ....) NOTE: for those for whom it could affect their enjoyment, there is an exceedingly brief moment of mild violence near the end; no one's agency is taken away and there are no injuries, but it should be noted. ONE FINAL NOTE: This takes place slightly later in Silver's timeline than my story "The Bright Side of Time," but considerably earlier in the Doctor's timeline.
Edited by: My poor self alone. It has been read and re-read rather obsessively, but any remaining misspellings, mistakes, and missteps are solely mine.
Disclaimer: None of the characters in this story are mine. They are the sole property of the BBC, Peter J. Hammond, ATV, and their various creators. I intend no infringement and take no coin.

Sapphire and Steel fic: Dreaming of a Sea of Stars

Title: Dreaming of a Sea of Stars
Author: [personal profile] kaffyr
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel
Characters: Sapphire, Silver, Steel, Lead, Ruby, Copper, Jet
Words: 1,565
Summary: Silver is curious about them. Steel doesn't want to talk about them. It is up to Sapphire to find an escape route.
Author's note: This was written, with all best wishes for a great 2016, for [personal profile] kerravonsen , during the 2015 Fandom Stocking fun. She and I are both Sapphire and Steel fans and we once talked about the dream logic of the show. This is, perhaps, a way to let dream logic help out our favorite Elements.
Edited by: Me. Although I reviewed it obsessively, there may be misspellings, mistakes, and missteps, all of which are solely my fault.
Disclaimer: None of the characters in this story are mine. They are the sole property of Peter J. Hammond, ATV and their various creators. I intend no infringement and take no coin.
