The day is almost done here , and is most certainly done over in England, where one of them lives, but I still want to wish very happy returns of the day to two people for whom I have affection and respect.
To heatherbelles, one of the first Who fans I ever met, thanks to Television Without Pity's Dr. Who forums, particularly the Party in the TARDIS (long before it became SHHHH Linda, and doesn't that date the two of us, eh?) She is lovely, hard-working, patient, kind, historically minded, and also a great judge of excellent footwear. And she enjoys Spooks, too! (Oh, and John Barrowman, but who doesn't? *g*)
To supergee , who I first met via the RASFF Usenet community back in the relatively dark Internet ages of the early and mid-90s. He is an omnivorous and thoughtfully critical reader with a brilliant sense of humor, the latter including an unerring eye and ear for the absurd. Happy 2013-14 to you!
... to the lovely coffeeem - may your December be warm, your Yule be bright, and your coming year full of joy and creative energy. Also cats and other stuff you like.
And lookee here! More belated birthdays!
... to azalaisdep , she of DW and LotR love, motherly patience, and music-loving soul, who had a birthday on 4th December; ... to spiderine , who is wilder and braver and more full of life than I'll ever be, and thus a credit to the world, also 4th December; ... to lsanderson , master of duck and fellow liberal traveller, who had a birthday on 9th December; ... to the seldom-seen but always welcome musichick42 , a fellow DW fan and former LINDA member whose birthday was 12th December.
As November Ends ... ... I am reminded that I have neglected sending birthday wishes to friends, both LJ and RL, for some time now. Before midnight comes around, let me at least partly rectify that.
Here's my wish, then, for all of the following wonderful people - may your birthdays have been great, and may all the days since simply improved from there. And if any of you had a horrible birthday, may the days that followed have erased the horrible memories. You are all truly wonderful people, and you deserve the best the world can offer, and more!
I send those wholly inadequate wishes out to ...
don_fitch (Nov. 2) I see this lovely gentleman far too rarely in RL and almost as rarely on Live Journal. He is a gifted gardener, blessed with memorable humor, intelligence, winning smiles and a great deal of patience with the foibles of humanity. He's a jewel of fandom (and gerisullivan can back me up on that.)
erikvolson (Nov. 5) This mercurial, ebullient Midwesterner is also brilliant, funny and kind. He's a connoisseur of bheer, of good music, and good company. He also wears a Red Hat with elan. And he's in my neck of the woods, so I should forcecoerce convince him to come over for supper one of these days.
cathica (Nov. 8) We hail from similar parts of the world, and share a love of writing and Doctor Who. She, on the other hand, is a dab hand at writing beautiful and terrifying tales, and can probably deal with bears and zombies with much more equanimity than I. (You did manage to get through "Night of the Living Dead." I never could.) I look forward to meeting her sometime in RL.
namarie24 (Nov. 24) Both Mack and Nam are remarkable siblings, who I met through LINDA over on the TWoP Doctor Who boards. It's been a pleasure to get to know two young people so dedicated to their calling, so full of fun, so adventurous, and so honorable. They're fans of DW, of the X-Files, of In Plain Site, and of Canada. They're also good writers and beloved of everyone who interacts with them over in LINDA. Additionally, they're the first Thunderkittens I've ever known. Heh.
othermewriter (Nov. 26) A dedicated Doctor Who fan, and fanfic writer, who shares my 'shipping interests (Rose and Nine, FTW!) and is also a fellow admirer of the Eighth and Third Doctors (Opera capes and Venusian Aikido, also FTW!)
decadentdave (Nov. 26) A Canadian science fiction fan and songwriter who I've had the pleasure and honor of knowing for many years, but who I've not had the pleasure of visiting with for far too many of them. If you've ever had the pleasure of listening to Dave, or of talking with him, you know what a treasure he is.
From me, to all of you - and to anyone else who I might, unforgiveably, have left off the list - I say again ...
A "Doctor Who Live" recommendation One of the shortcomings of life as a North American Doctor Who fan is the fact that I can't participate in the various Who-related events that are delightfully common in the British Isles. One such is this year's "Doctor Who Live" show. I was, however, able to enjoy an engaging review of the show by a dedicated Who fan, and fine writer, mr_lyon . His review is over here, and I invite folks to read, enjoy, and comment. Thanks, Weegie, for allowing me to enjoy the show, however indirectly!
Strawberry Shortcake That's what I fed belsum and mr. b when they dropped by Casakaffyr today. They are delightful folks, and it really made my day to be able to introduce them to BB, to yammer on about the awesomeness of Eleven and Three, and how Captain Jack is marvelous, and about our love of Torchwood, and a whole lot more. I always love it it when I'm able to meet lj (and LINDA) members in real life - although when these social occasions happen, it seems I can never get myself in order enough to present the House Beautiful, completely effortless meal, and perfectly groomed hostess that I always want to. Blame my Nana for that, although I'd rather say credit her, because I can't think of anyone who taught me more about civilized entertaining. I like to think some of it rubbed off ... uh ... where was I? Right. The reality? Almost everyone who's ever met me for the first time has had to chat with me while I make dinner in the kitchen, and has had to hear my apologies for the mess the place is in. Mind you, we always seem to pull it off, undoubtedly due to the kindness of the gods of hospitality. Today, BB and I managed to get some of the carpet vacuumed before the guests arrived; the catbox didn't smell bad; I'd gotten to Costco and brought back the shortcake makings, plus a veggie tray; and finally, I put on my best "Sure, I meant it to turn out this way" attitude, and Thunderbirds Were Go. Of course, the most important thing was that belsum and the Mr. were both extremely gracious about the whole situation. Thank you, folks! It was a pleasure, and I hope we have the chance to talk music and fandom again!!
Hey, there belsum ! Yes, I completely forgot to wish a happy, happy birthday to a lovely lady, a hep cat, a classy and awesomely rockin' music aficionado, a fine mom to The Captain and The Rani, a Buffy fan, a comics fan (woo-hoo!) and a Member in Good Standing of LINDA. Best wishes, my dear, and may the coming year be the best ever for you!
And now, the "Bwahz" part of the post The Ten-to-Eleven regeneration has not generated (see what I did there?) quite the amount of armageddangst I'd expected. The change from Uncle Rusty to The Moff? Yeah, just a bit, just enough to make it my civic duty to direct your eyes to this public service announcement over at doctorwho . I just love history, don't you? Especially this brilliant. Thanks to derooftrouser .
Happy Birthday to the Thunderkittens! By which I mean those excellent sisters mack_the_spoon and namarie24 . And despite my use of the delightful xtreme's equally delightful nickname, I hereby affirm that the young women having their birthdays today are far more adult, responsible, thoughtful, dedicated and still fun-loving, than many people twice their age.
My dears, may the teaching assistant jobs be challenging without overworking you; may your ongoing studies continue to fill you with frustration and then triumph (because the first makes the second sweeter), and may they lead you to the joy of service you have made your goal.
May you also continue to have fun writing fic (the only Xfiles and In Plain Sight fic I've ever read and enjoyed), going to concerts and enjoying good times with your wonderful family and your friends. And of course, dropping in to LINDA. You two rock!
Belated Birthday Greetings I send many, many such to darkpike , who is, without doubt, one of the nicer rapscallions it has been my pleasure to meet on teh Intarwebs. Forgive my tardy felicitations, dear boy, and I hope July 3 was a peach for you. May your family be tractable this year, may all your shows run smoothly, and may love and happiness be yours for the taking! See you over at LINDA!
