Frankenstein Meme, Day 9

What's the hardest thing about writing, and why are titles the Worst™?

Oh lord. The hardest part of writing for me is the absolutely glacial pace at which I do it. I took 11 years to finish one fic, FFS. It took me about two years to finish my first fic. And right now, I’m working on a fic that was promised to someone in the last Fandom Stocking, which was, like, two or three years ago.

I know why I take so long to write anything other than very short fics (and I always run the chance of fics I thought would be short turning into ... not short); I don’t have any idea, when I put that first sentence down, where the story is going. Well, sometimes I do, but very, very rarely.

On some very lucky occasions, I may go into the writing process knowing that I want some sort of outcome. Again, that’s not a common occurrence.

At this point in my life, I doubt that I’ll change. Even the original story I’m writing on — one where I knew where I wanted to start, took some time to figure out where I want it to end — is caught in that temporal bind. And I’m still not completely sure how to get there.

No matter what I write, the process generally involves repeatedly rewriting a sentence over a period of days or weeks, then lying in bed and going “Oh, so
that’s what happens!” and getting a little further. Lather, rinse, repeat.

On the other hand, titles are almost always easy for me; they just pop out of my cortex, or possibly my medulla oblongata. If there’s wordplay involved, so much the better./In closing, kids, don’t write like me. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.

The earlier questions:
1. What's changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?
2. Your newest fandom.
3. You've got your OTP, you have to throw a third into the mix (from the same fandom), creating an OT3. Who is the OTP, and in your opinion, why would they make a perfect third for them?
4. What are the origins of your pen name/user name?
5. What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?
6. What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way:
7. What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place?
Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily "icky", though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar.
